What kind of Wheelchair Lift Might you
Need
An accident or a medical condition may cause
a person to need a wheelchair lift. Generally, since
homes have stairs, it is naturally difficult for the
mobile-impaired person to go from one house level to the next
without a wheelchair lift. There might only be steps on
the front porch but it is still a problem. Thankfully there is
a solution. The is a lift that would remind a person of an
elevator and it is installed on a landing that has steps. There
are basically three types for this purpose and we will explore
them here.
Since some designs may not work for particular situations, the
manufacturer may have to customize the wheelchair lift to fit
the client’s needs. With proper measurements and calculations
it will be no problem to install what a person needs. But the
basic models are as follows:
1. Adjacent Cross - The adjacent cross
lift elevator is designed to allow the person to exit from the
side of the lift whether that is the left or right depends on
the setup.
2. Same Side - The one that is most
like a normal elevator is the one where you exit the same place
you entered and that is called the same side.
3. Straight Trough - If you have a
landing that you would need to depart the elevator lift on the
opposite side once you reach your destination then you would
require what is called the straight trough.
The wheel chair itself is not a factor that
can help determine the kind and style of lift to use. The main
factor that determines the type of wheelchair lift is the
platform it has to accommodate and the access that is already
in the existing structure. One might look into the possibility
of a temporary solution if there is an injury that will heal
within a year or so however for those who have a permanent
mobility issue then this will keep the need to move out of the
house into something more wheel chair friendly from becoming
necessary.
The best thing to do is to assess your
situation, your needs and even the budget and then consult a
wheel chair lift retailer to find out what options you have.
There are very safe and accommodating wheelchair lifts
available.
